Study at Carnegie Mellon University

Thank you for your interest in studying with Micah Howard at Carnegie Mellon University. Pittsburgh is brimming with culture – home to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, and other great institutions, such as the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble and Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild Jazz. Students and faculty at our school have the privilege of working with world-class musicians and educators.

The faculty and staff at CMU are dedicated to helping each student achieve their goals as a musician. Every week each student receives private lessons and participates in a solo class, which Micah teaches. Peter Guild, another member of the PSO, teaches Orchestral Literature and Repertoire weekly. Students are encouraged to reach out to the great bassists in the Pittsburgh area for lessons and direction. Pittsburgh is full of bassists from all of the city’s ensembles who are more than willing to lend a hand. Every year members of the Symphony, the Opera, and the Ballet give classes and offer individual attention to CMU students.
